Admissions

COVID-19 Update: If you're worried about your spring grades during this challenging time, Tech is here to help. We are a holistic review university, which means that we will consider all of life's situations when evaluating your application. You should apply and know we believe in you. Please send us an email (admissions@tntech.edu) or give us a call (931-372-3888) if you have any questions.

Transfers

If you’ve attended college after graduating from high school and have earned 24 college-level, transferable credit hours, you’re a transfer! If you have not earned 24 credit hours, you will be evaluated with a fitting combination of freshman and transfer admission requirements.

Interested in scholarships? Visit tntech.edu/scholarships for information on requirements and deadlines.

Admission Requirements

For guaranteed admission, students must meet the following general admission requirements. If you do not meet these requirements, a more holistic review will be used to evaluate your application for admission. An applicant under disciplinary suspension or probation will not be considered for admission until a satisfactory statement has been furnished by the former college and approval has been given by Tennessee Tech’s Admissions Review Committee.

Some programs have additional requirements. Programs of study with additional admission requirements include Nursing, Engineering, and Health-Related Pre-Professional programs. You can find detailed information about the requirements for these programs below.

General Requirements for Admission

  • 2.00 GPA in your last full-time semester (or your last 12 hours for part-time students) and
  • 2.00 overall GPA, including all previous coursework at all institutions (excepting developmental courses)

Transient Students

A transient student is a student who is regularly enrolled at another collegiate institution and would like to enroll at Tennessee Tech for one semester. A transient student who decides to become a regularly enrolled student must reapply and meet the regular requirements for admission as a transfer student. Transients must request the document(s) below from their current school and to be sent directly to Admissions:

  • an official transcript from your current institution or
  • an official Letter of Good Standing

 Programs with Additional Requirements

Engineering, Nursing, Health-Related Pre-Professional Programs, and the 2+2 Program have additional requirements for admission. If you wish to pursue one of these programs but do not meet the admission requirements for that program, so long as you meet general admission requirements, you will be admitted into the Student Success Program. Our Student Success Program allows students to take the same classes and prepares them for entry into the program of their choice.

  • Engineering, including Computer Science and Engineering Technology: 2.00 cumulative GPA, excluding remedial and development credit; and a grade of “C” or higher in a Pre-Calculus mathematics course that includes a study of the trigonometric identities
  • Nursing: 3.00 GPA
  • Health-Related Pre-Professional Programs: 3.00 GPA
  • 2+2 Program: Students participating in the 2+2 Program must also meet admission requirements for the department. For more information, select your program below:
              - College of Education’s 2+2 Program
              - College of Interdisciplinary Studies’ 2+2 Program

What if I don’t meet the minimum requirements for admission?

If you do not meet these requirements, a more holistic review will be used to evaluate your application for admission. The Admissions Review Committee meets once a week to discuss these on a case-by-case basis. If you would like to submit additional documents for review, such as a letter of appeal and/or a letter of recommendation from an academic advisor or professor, please email admissions@tntech.edu.

The review process is a non-competitive, holistic, and individualized process where the Review Committee may consider some or all of the following: academic rigor of courses, core course GPA and grade trends; as well as non-cognitive elements such as an applicant’s concept of self, ability to deal with adversity, long-range goals, community involvement, special interests or abilities, leadership, and support structures. Requests for review may be sent to admissions@tntech.edu.

Reverse Transfer

If you are transferring from a Tennessee Community college before receiving an associate degree, you may be able to earn your associate degree while also working toward a bachelor's degree at Tennessee Tech through the Tennessee Reverse Transfer Program. For this program, your community college will need to periodically review your academic progress at Tennessee Tech. Contact Tech's transfer specialist, Alex Callis, at (931) 372-3633 or tacallis@tntech.edu for more information. You can also visit our Reverse Transfer page.
