Steven Thomas

Steven W. Thomas's eclectic teaching and research interests include American literature, African studies, cultural theory about globalization, and film studies. In 2016, he was a Fulbright Scholar at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia where he taught film theory and has published several articles on Ethiopia's movie industry. In 2017, he co-edited a book entitled The Cinematic Eighteenth Century: History, Culture, and Adaptation. He has also published work on eighteenth-century British and American poetry about the transatlantic economy. During the 2018-19 academic year, he was the Barra Sabbatical Fellow at the McNeil Center for Early American Studies, where he researched the long history of how Ethiopia is represented in European and American literature from the 15th century to the present. He currently serves as the chair of the English department at Tennessee Tech.
