About

Chip Henderson has been an active performer across a wide range of musical settings, from traditional Dixieland ensembles to chamber orchestras. He has performed extensively with jazz groups and big bands throughout the Memphis and Nashville metropolitan areas and has appeared with the IRIS Chamber Orchestra, the Memphis Symphony, the Nashville Symphony, the Knoxville Symphony, Orchestra Kentucky, and the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. Most recently, he appeared on the Gateway Chamber Orchestra's 2025 recording of Osvaldo Golijov's La Pasión Según San Marcos – Live at 25 (Summit Records).

A versatile multi-instrumentalist, Chip has also performed with local productions of numerous national touring Broadway shows, including Chicago, Spamalot, The Lion King, Shrek: The Musical, The Addams Family, Motown, MJ: The Musical, and others.

Since 2009, Chip has worked as a freelance arranger for Hal Leonard Publishing, contributing fourteen books to the Essential Elements Guitar Ensemble series, two titles to the Jazz Guitar Chord Melody series, and assisting with the compilation of The Jazz Guitar Omnibook (2019). In 2016, Alfred Publishing released his transcription book Charlie Christian: Selected Solos from the Father of Modern Jazz Guitar. The publication led to seminars throughout the United States, Canada, and South America, an invitation to perform at Charlie Christian's 2018 induction into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, and an ongoing faculty appointment with the Leyenda Foundation's Charlie Christian Jazz Guitar Institute at Oklahoma City University.

Chip earned both a Bachelor of Music (1997) and a Master of Music (2002) in Jazz Guitar Performance from the University of Memphis.
