Dr. Justin Stanley enjoys a career as a sought-after freelance hornist, accomplished chamber musician, and teacher. Justin is a founding member of American Prize-finalist Some Assembly Required, a chamber ensemble praised for its “innovative” and “new approach to programming and performing at the highest level” (Richard Guerin, Salem Classical, MA). SAR has toured across the country and commissioned several new works, four of which are featured on its debut eponymous album. Justin is the new Assistant Professor of Horn at Tennessee Tech's School of Music. At Tech, Justin teaches the horn studio, directs horn choir, teaches academic classes and performs with the Cumberland Quintet, Brass Arts Quintet, and Bryan Symphony.

Justin has played with ensembles around the country. He led the horn section at the 2023 Colorado Mahlerfest, performing Mahler's 2nd Symphony, Kindertotenlieder, and the first act of Wagner's Die Walküre. Justin was principal horn with Orchestra NEXT for their 2021 production and studio recording of the Nutcracker. Justin was 2nd horn in the Newport Symphony (Oregon). Other notable freelance performances include the Eugene Symphony, Oregon Mozart Players, Oregon Symphony, Microphilharmonic, Boston Philharmonic, Fiddlehead Theatre, Lexington Symphony, Plymouth Philharmonic, Salisbury Singers, the Lyric Stage Theatre, and the Boston Opera Collaborative. This season, Justin will perform as section horn with groups including the Asheville Symphony, Chattanooga Symphony, and Tennessee Philharmonic.

Justin has a wide variety of educational experience, teaching master classes and brass coaching across the country. Justin was Instructor of Horn for the 2022-2023 school year at the University of Oregon. Justin served on the board of the Northwest Horn Society for three years. In that role, Justin spearheaded multiple scholarship programs, started a podcast, and provided marketing and communications support. Justin has performed, presented, and judged competitions at international and regional symposiums in Montreal, Canada, Moscow, Idaho, and Ellensburg, Washington. Justin received a Bachelor’s in Music Performance from New York University, a Master’s in Horn Performance with a Music-in-Education concentration from New England Conservatory, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Horn Performance from the University of Oregon.
