Jacob McMurray
Jacob McMurray is a freshman electrical engineering major at Tennessee Tech and a transfer student from Northeast State Community College.
McMurray was initially drawn to Tech after hearing praises about the university’s engineering program. He wanted to see if what he heard was true, so he took a visit.
“After taking a visit, being able to receive a personal tour, and talking one-on-one with (professor) Dr. Bhattacharya, I knew that Tech cared as much about my success as I did,” said McMurray.
Now on campus, McMurray has jumped right into the excitement. He is a member of Chi Alpha, and he notes that his favorite thing about Tech is the friendships he has developed. Specifically, McMurray points out that his friends value and prioritize their education to the same extent he does, which makes a huge impact.
“There is always a fellow student either in the library or along with you in class that is willing and able to help or study alongside you,” he said. “I can confidently say that the companionship that I have found here will last me a lifetime.”
McMurray has also benefitted from the relationships built at Tech and the genuine care the professors have for the students.
“At Tech the community that has been developed between students and professors is unlike any other,” McMurray explained. “With so many resources and opportunities for additional help, it’s easy to realize that you are not alone in your struggle, and everyone here wants to see you excel.”
