An Evening with
Sascha Altman DuBrul

DuBrul

DuBrul is the co-founder of The Icarus Project, an international
community support network and media project, which is attempting
to redefine the language and culture of mental health and illness.
He founded the Bay Area Seed Interchange Library (BASIL).

He also helped to develop the Institute for the Development of Human
Arts (IDHA), a training institute for mental health workers. This institute
offers training to clinicians and peer workers in order to think about
their personal relationship to mental health and illness. It is also
building a network of mentorship to positively transform the mental health system.

Tatsuki Hakoyama is a Japanese artist based in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Having experienced lifestyles in Japan, Samoa, and the United States,
his work often reflects on how culture, community, and environment
impact our identity and values. His allegorical figurative paintings are
often carefully planned to invoke a sense of mystery, reflecting on the
surreal intricacies embedded within the mundane.

Celebrating Southern Hip-Hop
Dr. Heidi R. Lewis

This event is in part to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop
and the contribution of Southern rappers. Dr. Lewis is the author
of the text Make Rappers Rap Again: Interrogating the Mumble Rap
Crisis
(Oxford University Press) which examines the current trend
that has inundated and at the same time trivialized hip-hop. In her
lecture she discusses southern rappers and their role and impact
in the latest inaudibility trend but how they have helped redefine
the genre with their regional dialects. 

Patricio Cosentino, tuba

Cosentino One of the few tuba players in the world to commit to a full-time solo career, 
Patricio Cosentino also stands out for his work as a chamber musician, conductor,
and educator. His career reflects an unwavering commitment to the promotion
and appreciation of Latin American music, as well as the expansion of the tuba
repertoire on major stages in America, Europe, and Africa.

Jennifer Case, author

 Jennifer Case is an Associate Professor of Creative Writing at the University
of Central Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas. She is the author of two books,
Sawbill: A Search for Place, and We Are Animals: On the Nature and Politics
of Motherhood
, which was published by Trinity University Press in September
2024.  Case will give an open public reading from We Are Animals:
On the Nature and Politics of Motherhood
, which will be available before
her on-campus event.
