Michelle Huddleston Memorial Food Pantry - FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can use the food pantry?

The food pantry serves all Tennessee Tech students and employees, including individuals employed through third-party partners working on campus. At this time, pantry services are available only to members of the Tennessee Tech community.

Do I need to complete an application to receive food?

Yes. A brief online application lets our team know you plan to visit the pantry and helps us prepare for your arrival. If you are unable to complete the form online, a paper version is available at the pantry. Completing the application before you arrive will help speed up the process.

When is the food pantry open?

During the fall and spring semesters, the food pantry is open Tuesday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. During the summer, it is open Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. If you are unable to visit during regular hours, please contact us and we will do our best to arrange an alternative pickup time.

How often can I receive food?

Clients may receive food from the pantry once each week.

Can someone else pick up food for me?

Yes. If someone else will be picking up your food, simply include their name in the comments section of your application.

How much food can I receive?

Clients may select up to 20 items during each visit.

Can I choose the food I receive?

Yes. You will have the opportunity to select the items that best meet your needs. Pantry volunteers will guide you through the selection process. Clients may choose up to three refrigerated items and three frozen items, but we ask that duplicate items not be taken from these areas so resources remain available for others.

Do you offer food for infants and toddlers?

Yes, when available. We strive to keep a variety of age-appropriate food items in stock, including options for infants and young children.

Who runs the food pantry?

The Michelle Huddleston Memorial Food Pantry is operated by the Division of Student Affairs and is primarily staffed by students. Day-to-day operations are led by a graduate assistant serving as the Food Pantry Manager, with support from student employees, interns, and volunteers.

Will my information remain confidential?

Yes. Protecting your privacy is very important to us. All staff and volunteers are required to maintain the confidentiality of client information and may only access information necessary to provide services.

Can you accommodate food allergies or dietary restrictions?

We do our best to accommodate food allergies, dietary restrictions, and food preferences based on available inventory. Please let us know about any dietary needs when completing your application.

Do you provide non-food items?

Yes, when available. In addition to food, we often distribute basic toiletry items, household essentials, laundry detergent, and other personal care products through donations and special collections.
