Apply to be a Student Orientation Assistant

Are you ready to make a difference in the lives of incoming students? As a Student Orientation Assistant (SOA), you'll play a key role in welcoming new students to Tennessee Tech, helping them transition smoothly into college life. This is your chance to develop leadership skills, build lasting friendships, and make a positive impact on our campus community. If you're passionate about Tech and eager to share your experience, we invite you to apply and join our team of dedicated SOAs.

Qualifications

  • Must be an undergraduate Tech student
  • NOT graduating in the Spring/Summer 2026
  • Have a positive attitude toward the University
  • Have great interpersonal skills
  • Time to commit to the training schedule & orientation events
  • A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better in college (3.0 in high school if you are a freshman)

Commitment

  • Orientation team retreat in January 2026
  • Training sessions, held on Thursday afternoons from 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. during the Spring semester. *Note: These sessions are mandatory. Work & class schedules must be adjusted to accommodate training.
  • Orientation sessions in May, June, July, & August
  • Week of Welcome 2026
  • Students selected to serve as SOAs cannot take traditional on-campus summer classes. Online courses are acceptable as long as they do not conflict with summer orientation responsibilities.
Note: A detailed list of dates will be provided to candidates during the interview process.

Application Information & Instructions

  1. Access the online application by clicking the button below, then follow each of the four (4) section's instructions.
    • All applications must be submitted by Wednesday, Oct. 1.
  2. REFERENCES - All new applicant references must be submitted by Monday, Oct. 6. A link to the online reference form is also available below.

Each application will be reviewed. Candidates will be contacted to schedule an interview during one of the two interview days.
