SOAR Parent & Guest Information

Congratulations! Your student has chosen to join a wonderful family here at Tennessee Tech University, and we are excited about the many opportunities that await all of our new students! Parent & Guest Orientation is part of the freshman SOAR program and allows you to meet faculty, administrators, and staff who will be working with your student during their college career.

Maybe this is your first child to attend college, or maybe you're an "old pro" at the college process. Either way, you're probably a little apprehensive about sending your student to college. You may still have questions about what your student needs to do next to ensure they have a smooth transition to Tech. This could include wondering who will help your student register for classes, where they will eat meals, or just have some fun. All of these questions, and more, will be answered at Parent & Guest Orientation this summer during SOAR.

SOAR Parent & Guest FAQs

Should parents attend SOAR?

The short answer is yes! We know schedules can be busy, but we highly encourage a parent or family member attend SOAR with their student. By attending SOAR, the student and their parent/guest will be more informed about the student experience, campus resources, and next steps for finalizing enrollment at Tech. As a parent or family member, you'll have the opportunity to learn more about how to support and be a partner in your student's success at Tech.

Some additional benefits of attending SOAR as a parent/family member include:

  • Meeting key campus contacts and administrators, as well as other parents
  • Receiving information you can utilize for future conversations with your student
  • Becoming familiar with campus and the Cookeville community where your student will be spending the next few years of their lives

During SOAR, you will have the opportunity to learn more about and join the Tennessee Tech Parent Association (TTUPA). The TTUPA is a great way for parents to stay involved in their student's college experience by staying up-to-date with what's happening on campus and monthly email communications with important dates and other
helpful information. We can't wait to meet you at SOAR!
