Budgeting, Planning, Reporting, and Analysis - Position Control

Position Control

Guidelines regarding position control can be found under Budget Control Policy Number 501.

The number of authorized permanent positions at Tennessee Tech is controlled within unrestricted education and general accounts and auxiliaries.

Positions are reported to the Board of Trustees each year in the proposed and revised budgeting processes, and at additional times as requested by the state during the legislative session.

Authorized permanent positions are approved at the May/June and November/December board meetings.

The Budget Office must receive a permanent budget revision to fund all new permanent positions before it can be set up and advertised.

Additionally, the Tennessee Board of Regents requires that any unfilled position should be budgeted at a reasonable amount or deleted. We cannot report active, unfilled positions that are budgeted at nominal levels. Each position should be permanently budgeted to match the minimum salary for the position's pay grade, unless the position will be downgraded or eliminated.
