Certificate in French for the Workplace (FWP-CER)
The Certificate in French for the Workplace gives students the language and cultural foundation necessary to succeed in a French-speaking work environment. Students will complete 12 hours of language courses (FREN 1020 to FREN 3010), as well as two courses dedicated to pre-graduation work experience and career readiness (FREN 3200 and FREN 4910). As part of their course grade in FREN 3200 students will take the exam for the Diplôme de Français Professionnel (DFP) offered by the Paris Ile-de-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which provides a formal, internationally recognized assessment of their language skills that is valid for life, and that they can show to either potential internship sites, or to potential employers.
Required Courses (18 hours total):
- FREN 1020: Elementary French 2 (3 hours; prerequisite FREN 1010)
- FREN 2010: Intermediate French 1 (3 credit hours; prerequisite FREN 1020)
- FREN 2020: Intermediate French 2 (3 credit hours; prerequisite FREN 2010)
- FREN 3010: Written Communication in French (3 credit hours; prerequisite FREN 2020)
- FREN 3200: Business French (3 credit hours; prerequisite or corequisite FREN 3010)
- FREN 4910: Directed Studies in French: Professional Internship (3 credit hours; prerequisite FREN 3010—may be completed through study abroad)
