Physics Department
Tennessee Tech's Physics Department is among the strongest in the nation, producing high quality graduates, most of who go on to graduate school in physics or a closely related field. In its latest external review (March 2019) the program was rated 'Excellent' in all aspects of its mission. The department has a family atmosphere, with 1-on-1 advising and frequent interaction between students, faculty, and staff. There are two different paths you can follow in earning your BS degree in Physics, each incorporating a genuine research experience. Minors in both physics and astronomy are also available.
We were one of the first departments nationwide to offer undergraduates the chance to work with faculty on their research. Such opportunities continue through externally-funded research programs in various areas of nuclear and fundamental physics, as well as physics education. Such opportunities and high-quality instruction, both in and out of the classroom, prepare you for success after college.
