Mental Health Check-Up: The Student’s Guide to Screeners
What is a Mental Health Screener?
Think of a screener like a "temperature check" for your brain. It is a quick, confidential set of questions designed to help you understand your emotional well-being.
- It IS: A snapshot of your current mental health and a tool to spot early warning signs of anxiety, depression, or burnout.
- It is NOT: A diagnosis. A high score doesn't mean you have a disorder; it just means you might benefit from talking to a professional.
Why Should You Take One?
- Validation: Sometimes we downplay our own struggles. A screener can give you objective data that says, "Hey, what you're feeling is real, and it's okay to ask for help."
- Privacy: You can take them alone, in your dorm, at 2 AM. It’s a low-pressure way to check in on yourself without having to talk to anyone immediately.
- Prevention: catching things early (like academic burnout or social anxiety) is easier than trying to fix them during midterms.
What to Do With Your Results
If your results suggest you are "at risk" or scoring high, don't panic.
- Save your results: Take a screenshot.
- Make an appointment: Bring the screenshot to the CCMHW to your appointment to discuss the information with a counselor. We can provide you with additional direction and information regarding your personal screening.
