Student teaching candidates will be in their placement for 15 weeks. During this time, the candidate will gradually become more and more involved in the day-to-day operation of the classroom.

Candidates and mentors will collaborate and may use the co-teaching model to prepare for teaching responsibilities. The candidate may also facilitate small group and one-on-one instruction, as appropriate.

Along with duties already listed, the candidate should conduct clerical tasks such as grading, recording and filing papers, making copies, etc.

Additionally, licensure candidates are required to complete their capstone project, the edTPA, during their student teaching experience.

NOTE:

Candidates must earn a “B or better" in their student teaching course to receive a teaching license and graduate.

Teacher candidates should collaborate with their academic advisor to determine the semester in which they will be student teaching and concluding other program requirements.
