What can I do with a degree in Engineering?

Students graduating with a major in Engineering will be prepared to use their focused study in math, science, and engineering to solve problems and design solutions in a variety of industries and settings.

The multi-disciplinary nature of this program will prepare students to serve needs in general manufacturing, technical services, construction, and management of complex technical processes and programs.

What courses will I take in the joint Engineering (TTU-ETSU—B.S. Eng.) program?

The joint Bachelor of Science in Engineering program offered through Tennessee Tech and ETSU is composed of 128 credit hours. The coursework is broken down in the following components:

General Education	36 credit hours
Major: Math & Science	22-24 credit hours
Major: Engineering	54 credit hours
Technical Electives	12 credit hours
Other	2-4 credit hours
TOTAL	128 credit hours

I plan to begin the program after I graduate from high school. What classes should I take?

High school students considering a major in engineering should study the highest math possible in high school. In addition, students are encouraged to take chemistry and physics to provide a foundation for further study in college.

I’m a transfer student. Will my credits transfer, and how long will it take me to finish my degree?

During the admission process, transfer students should submit official transcripts to the university for evaluation. The Admissions Office and the program coordinator will conduct official reviews and determine courses that are eligible for transfer. Transfer courses in math, science, and the major must carry a grade of “C” or better. After these evaluations are completed, the program advisor will work with students to identify remaining coursework and to establish a timeline for degree completion.

I have been accepted for admission to the university, but my GPA does not meet the program requirements? Will I have the opportunity to declare engineering as my major at another time?

Students who do not meet the program requirements upon admission to the university may pursue entering the program later, once successfully completing math and science prerequisites.

Is the joint Engineering program (TTU-ETSU B.S. Eng.) ABET accredited?

The program will seek accreditation by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) after the graduation of the first class of students.

Will the program prepare me to sit for the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam?

Coursework in the major is designed for students intending to sit for the FE exam. Support will be provided for those students preparing for the exam. Students are strongly encouraged to take the exam, though taking the exam is voluntary.
