Honors Program

• The student must be a full-time undergraduate student with a major in the College of Arts and Sciences.
• The student must be a junior or above, with preference given to students who have already earned 120 or more credit hours and who will be entering into their fifth or later year.
• The student must have a QPA of 3.5 or above in the major field(s).
• The student must, whether currently a full member by QPA or not, display active contributions within the structure of the Honors Program by taking appropriate numbers of Honors courses and by significant participation in ASG activities.
• The student must have financial need as documented by the Financial Aid Office.
• The student must have filled out a FAFSA form from Financial Aid and put it in the application. (Financial need is only one among the several important requirements judges must consider.)
• Preference will be given to students who require five or more years to graduate because they are completing multiple majors or have changed majors.
• The recipient will be chosen by a committee appointed by the director of the Honors Program, which will include both of the Honors directors, and at least two Honors faculty members.
• The student may receive the scholarship for no more than two years.
• The recipient may not be awarded more than one scholarship of $1000 or more per semester from any college or department in the same academic year.

• A one-page (or less) objective statement of your financial need, including:
  • What scholarships, grants, and loans you have held in the past and what years you held each.
  • Estimate of the total amount of money you received from your parents each year of your college career.
  • Total amount of money each year you have received or earned from other sources during your college career.
  • Anything else financial you want us to know that has a bearing on why you should receive this scholarship.
  • You must sign your application to attest to the truthfulness of all statements made in your application.
• A completed FAFSA for the coming year.
• A list of the Honors courses you have taken.
• A one-page (or less) statement of your plans for next year (why you are staying for an additional year).
• A list of all your contributions and activities within the structure of the Honors Program and ASG.
• A separate list, if you wish, of your contributions to other units of the university and community.

Any student who meets the following criteria will be eligible to apply for a scholarship through THE CONNIE HOOD ARETE SCHOLARSHIP:

• Must be a full-time undergraduate student in good standing with current institutional policies.
• Must be classified as a senior or above and have an overall QPA of 3.5.
• Must be completing the requirements to graduate in cursu honorum.
• Must have financial need, as documented by the Financial Aid Office and completed FAFSA form.
• Must actively contribute to the Honors Program via course work and participation in ASG activities.

The recipient will be selected by a committee appointed by the Director of the Honors Program. The scholarship will be $1,000 per semester for one year (2 semesters). A student receiving the scholarship may be considered for one additional year. The recipient may not be awarded more than one scholarship of $1000 or more per semester from any college or department in the same academic year. The selection committee will give preference to students who have already earned 120 or more semester hours and who will be entering into their fifth or later year of course work (excluding co-op or internship). Preference will also be given to students displaying financial need and completing multiple majors or having changed majors and requiring five or more years to graduate. Additionally, preference will be given to students requiring at least two additional semesters to complete graduation requirements, over students who require only one semester.
