SERVICES FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES POLICY NO. 340

Add the following statement to all course syllabi:

“Students with a disability requiring academic adjustments and accommodations must contact the Accessible Education Center (AEC). AEC is located in the Roaden
University Center, Room 112; phone 372-6119. For more information see
Tennessee Tech Policy 340 (Services for Students with Disabilities) at

Rights and Responsibilities:

  • Tennessee Tech has a collective responsibility to create an accessible learning environment. Reasonable accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis and faculty have a responsibility to ensure that the approved accommodations are implemented in the course.
  • The Accessible Education Center likely has limited knowledge of specific course content. As a result, some accommodations listed below may not align with course objectives or may be unreasonable because implementation would fundamentally alter the course. If an accommodation seems unreasonable given the nature of your course contact the Office of Disability to discuss the matter.
  • Students have the right to request accommodations at any point in the semester. If additional accommodations are requested the Accessible Education Center will notify faculty members at the time of the request. Faculty members are not responsible for retroactive accommodations.
  • Please Respect the Student's Confidentiality. Students are not required to disclose the nature of their disabilities to faculty, classmates, or staff beyond the Accessible Education Center staff. The fact that this student has a disability, and receives accommodations, is information protected by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). If necessary, this information may be shared with individuals who are assisting in teaching the course or in providing the requested accommodations.
  • The student may choose not to utilize the accommodations. Per Tennessee Tech's Policy below, AEC can provide test proctoring during normal business hours as a service for faculty who are unable to arrange testing accommodations.
