Our Ph.D. program in Counseling & Supervision prepares and enhances students’ capacity for skill development and critical thinking as they go on to become clinicians, supervisors, educators, advocates, scholars, leaders, and program evaluators within the counseling profession.

We offer a dynamic and collaborative learning environment via an infusion of scholarship, research, and real-world problem solving. The program also makes an impact within our region by helping address mental health and addiction treatment needs in the community.

Features of the Degree

The Ph.D. consists of a minimum of 48 credit hours of advanced coursework, a 100-hour clinical practicum, a 600-hour internship, and dissertation research.

The program is offered as an annual fall admission cohort.

Program Objectives

Consistent with the 2016 CACREP Standards, our doctoral program seeks to...

(a) extend the knowledge base of the counseling profession in a climate of scholarly inquiry;

(b) prepare students to inform professional practice by generating new knowledge for the profession;

(c) support faculty and students in publishing and/or presenting the results of scholarly inquiry; and,

(d) equip students to assume positions of leadership in the profession and/or their area(s) of specialization (2016 CACREP Standards, p. 38).
