Master of Arts | Specialist in Education
The Clinical Mental Health Counseling master's and specialist degree programs prepare emerging professionals to provide clinical mental health services to individuals and groups in public (clinics, hospitals, school-based programs) and private practice.
Our graduates often obtain Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) licensure with a Mental Health Service Provider endorsement, which allows them to work with cases of a more diagnostic and clinical nature.
Licensure requires supervised clinical experience beyond the hours required for a degree.

National Counselor Examination / National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC)
Tennessee Tech’s clinical mental health counseling track was recently approved for participation in NBCC’s NCC application options for counseling graduate students.
As a result, students who are well-advanced in their coursework can take the National Counselor Examination for Licensure and Certification (NCE) while still enrolled. This is the first step toward becoming a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Tennessee. Because this track is accredited by CACREP, the post-master’s experience requirement for the NCC credential is waived for Tennessee Tech applicants.
The NCC credential is a prerequisite for several specialty certifications offered by the NBCC, including school counseling, clinical mental health counseling, addictions counseling, and clinical supervision.
