Scholarship Information

Incoming Freshmen | Undergraduates | Graduate Students

Annual Application Deadline: DECEMBER 15

The College of Education and its departments offer a range of scholarship opportunities for their students.

Completing one (1) application per academic year makes you eligible for all university scholarships for which you meet the criteria.
Students must reapply annually by December 15 for the next academic year.

NOTE: Incoming freshmen, you need to apply for scholarships the year before you plan to attend in the fall.

    Jessica A. Kelley Memorial Endowed Scholarship

    Duck Day fundraiser

    Annual Duck Day Fundraiser: Jessica A. Kelley Memorial Scholarship

    • Must be a regularly admitted or current student in good standing in accordance with current institutional policies;
    • Must be majoring in psychology with a preference in child counseling; Must be junior or senior classification;
    • Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher;
    • Must have a recommendation letter from a member of the department.
    • This scholarship is renewable for up to one additional year for junior status students if the criteria continue to be met.

    Richard Troelstrup Psychology Award & Scholarship

    • Must be a junior or senior student;
    • Must have completed a minimum of 24 semester hours in psychology.
    • The recipient will be selected based upon the student’s GPA overall and psychology GPAs;
    • Must have participation in psychology related activities (e.g. Psychology Club, Psi Chi, and social events);
    • Must demonstrate interest in and participation with research;
    • Must indicate professional plans in psychology. 

    Graduate

    Sharon Spears Borden Memorial Endowed Scholarship

    • Must be a graduate student, or incoming graduate student, in the Department of Counseling and Psychology;
    • Must meet all regular admission requirements for the Graduate School at Tennessee Tech University;
    • Must be a Counseling and Psychology major and have intent to pursue a career in the area of education;
    • Must be actively enrolled as a student (a minimum of six hours per semester);
    • Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA;
    • Must be interviewed and approved by a committee composed of department graduate faculty and any other appropriate representatives.
    • Priority in selection shall be given to students in the school counseling programs.

    • Must be of African-American descent majoring in Early Childhood, Pre K-4, or Elementary Education K-4.

    Elizabeth Bell Memorial Endowed Scholarship

    • Must be a Junior/Senior majoring in either Elementary Education or Early Childhood Major.

    Jane DuBois Young Scholarship

    • Must be a Junior/Senior seeking teacher certification in K-6 major.

    Marilyn Morton Endowed Scholarship

    • Prospective or current student declared K-6 major with full admission to the Teacher Education Program at Tech.

    Mozelle Spain Medley Memorial Endowed Scholarship

    • Must plan to teach at the elementary education level.

    R. K. & Marcia Fletcher Endowed Scholarship

    • Must be a Sophomore majoring in Secondary Education Science or Secondary Education Mathematics.

    Graduate

    Dolores D. Nichols Memorial Endowed Scholarship

    • Must be a C&I Graduate Student with a concentration in Library Science.

    Mary & A. E. Quattlebaum Endowed Education Fellowship

    • Must be admitted to the College of Education doctoral program; must be single female employed as a K-12 teacher.

    Dr. William B. Stradley Memorial Scholarship

    • Must be a Graduate Student: Education Administration, Supervision, and Curriculum study; must have experience as a school administrator or teacher.

    Undergraduate

    Bill & Suzanne Worrell Scholarship Endowment

    • Must be a full-time undergraduate student in good standing in accordance with current institutional policies;
    • Must be classified as a sophomore or above and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 in the major field(s);
    • Must have a desire to coach women’s basketball. 
    • If no student is available who meets this criteria, then the recipient may be someone with a desire to coach men’s basketball. If no student is available who meets either criteria, then the recipient may be anyone interested in the coaching profession.

    Flippen Endowed Scholarship

    • Must be a prospective or current student in good standing in accordance with current institutional policies;
    • Must have a declared major in a degree within the Exercise Science department;
    • Must demonstrate financial need.
    • As a freshman scholarship, the student must have a high school GPA of 2.75 or higher; as a collegiate scholarship, the student must have a college GPA of 2.75 or higher at the end of the academic year to receive or maintain the scholarship;
    • Must be a U.S. citizen with preference given to citizens of Tennessee or Kentucky.

    J.J. & Dot Miller Scholarship

    • Must be a prospective or current student in good standing in accordance with current institutional policies;
    • Must be an Exercise Science sophomore with at least a 3.0 GPA who has submitted two (2) disposition recommendations from current Exercise Science faculty members and has submitted a student-prepared letter of need;
    • Priority will go to students with a documented interest in coaching wrestling.

    Raymond "Bull" Brown Scholarship

    • Must be a prospective or current student in good standing in accordance with current institutional policies;
    • Must be a senior pursuing a major in Exercise Science;
    • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.75.

    Raymond Drost Memorial Endowed Scholarship

    • Must be a current undergraduate student in good standing in accordance with current institutional policies;
    • Must be an Exercise Science major with a GPA of at least 2.75;
    • Must have had active participation in the Tennessee Tech intramural program (playing or working);
    • May be required to interview with departmental personnel.

    Graduate

    Elsie Jobe & Jewell Nolen Memorial Scholarship

    • Must be a current graduate student fully admitted and in good standing in accordance with current institutional policies;
    • Must have a minimum 3.5 GPA based on nine (9) hours of graduate credit in the program of study for the Master's Degree in Exercise Science;
    • Must submit a current vitae;
    • Must submit a written statement describing how the scholarship would be of benefit to professional goals;
    • Must be present for a personal interview, if requested;
    • Other items to be taken into consideration will be professional commitment, a positive professional image, and a record of public service.

    Alumnus Award

    Flavious Smith Outstanding Alumnus Award

    • Must have a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Exercise Science from Tennessee Tech;
    • Must have graduated at least ten (10) years before induction;
    • Must NOT have been a Tech faculty member for five (5) years before induction;
    • Must have achieved prominence in the alum's chosen career (not necessarily in education);
    • Must have made other significant contributions to society.

HIGHER EDUCATION FUNDING

Minority Teaching Fellows Program

The Minority Teaching Fellows Program is intended to encourage talented minority Tennesseans to enter the teaching field in Tennessee. The award is $5,000 per year for students who pursue a teacher certification at an eligible Tennessee college or university.
