Donating Books and Physical Items

We are grateful you have considered donating materials to the Volpe Library!

If you want a tax receipt for the donation of your items, you must follow these detailed instructions. If you drop off items before receiving the email described in step 5 of the detailed instructions, your donations become anonymous. You will not receive a tax receipt for anonymous donations.

If you wish to donate items anonymously, please bring them to the front desk anytime the library is open.  We will review them for condition, usefulness, and relevance, and choose which ones to add to our collection.  We will find a home for items we do not add using Better World Books or other avenues.

We do NOT accept the following:

  • Damaged items (mold, stained, warped, bent, broken spines, pest damage, missing covers, etc.)
  • Items with pages missing, damaged, or written on/highlighted
  • Items with strong odors (smoke, pets, food)
  • Personal journals or notebooks - check with Archives & Special Collections
  • Print journals, periodicals, or magazines
  • VHS tapes

Please contact Holly Mills with questions about physical donations.
