Good Samaritan Law - Any person, including those licensed to practice medicine and surgery and including any person licensed or certified to render service ancillary thereto, or any member of a volunteer first aid, rescue or emergency squad that provides emergency public first aid and rescue service...shall not be liable to such victims or persons receiving emergency care for any civil damages as a result of any act or omission by such person in rendering the emergency care.
AED Owner - Any department posessing an AED is the owner and must ensure all applicable State of Tennessee and Tennessee Tech University regulations regarding AED's are followed.
AED Training - AED owners must ensure that expected users receive CPR/AED training.
AED Maintenance - The owner must maintain, test, and operate the AED according to the manufacturer's guidelines and maintain written records of all maintenance and testing performed on the AED.
Medical Oversight - AED program medical oversight services must be provided by an in-state licensed physician. In-state medical director residency is not required.
The placement of the AED must be supervised and endorsed by a licensed physician. Currently the Physician on contract with Health Services provides medical oversight for Tn Tech.
AED Program - The AED owner must establish a written departmental AED program to include AED placement, authorized users, AED maintenance and testing records that will be kept by the program and reports of AED use, and must also notify EHS of the location of the AED.
AEDs are located in the following buildings:
Cabinets which house AEDs are connected to the telephone system and automatically alert emergency services when opened. A key must be used when opening the cabinet for non emergencies i.e. inspection or maintenance.
