TLC Tutoring Notes

2022-2023: Tutoring continues to increase back to pre-COVID-19 statistics. The most notable decreases from 2018-2019 are math and engineering tutoring. The most notable increases are physics, chemistry, and biology. Tutee evaluations are still incredibly positive.

2021-2022: The increase from last year is most likely due to relaxed COVID-19 protocols and behaviors. The tutee evaluations continue to be extraordinarily positive.

2020-2021: Due to the pandemic, tutoring remained online only for the year.  The decrease in tutoring when offering only online mimics trends at other universities as per the learning assistance listserv.  Although usage decreased, the satisfaction rates remained extremely positive.

2019-2020: Tutoring moved to online only for all locations after spring break through June 30, 2020. There was less online tutoring during spring than there has traditionally been for in-person tutoring, which explains the decreased numbers in most areas. In the tutee evaluation, the feedback for online tutoring in the spring was 100% positive regarding appointment scheduling, helpfulness, comfort levels, and recommending tutoring to a friend.

2018-2019: The overall amount of tutoring increased by more than 400 appointments.  The library now handles over 95% of all campus tutoring.  Tutoring for engineering classes increased substantially, but this was expected because of the marketing strategies used throughout both semesters for upper division engineering classes.  Math also increased dramatically, and the increase can be contributed to offering more upper division math classes.  Nursing test prep tutoring sessions are still incredibly popular, and group tutoring and test prep tutoring sessions will expand to include other disciplines starting in the fall 2019 semester.

2017-2018: This year, the amount of time spent tutoring increased, but the number of tutoring appointments decreased because the default tutoring appointment duration was changed to 30 minutes instead of 15. The library now handles over 90% of campus tutoring. Nursing tutoring continued to increase dramatically, and foreign languages tutoring increased as well. This year group tutoring started with nursing classes, which was focused on preparing for class tests. Group tutoring will expand to other disciplines next year because it was very well attended.

2016-2017: This year multiple tutoring locations scheduled and tracking appointments through TechConnect. The library handles almost 90% of campus tutoring, and this year was its busiest year. Chemistry and nursing tutoring increased dramatically, and physics also continues to increase.
