Resident Assistant (RA) Information ›
Resident Assistants (RAs) at Tennessee Tech are student leaders who help create meaningful
and inclusive residential experiences. Through the Knowing, Connecting, Empowering (KCE) model, RAs build relationships, foster community, and support residents in
their personal and academic growth. Serving as an RA is a unique opportunity to make
an impact, develop leadership skills, and be part of a supportive team that values
connection and care.
Conference Assistant (CA) Information ›
CAs operate in halls during the summer. We will have conference programs the entire
summer and in all halls, excluding our summer housing hall for Tech students.
General Student Worker Information ›
General student workers typically work in our main office, in the Account Clerk's
office as an assistant, or in our Tech Village apartments office.
Resident Assistant (RA) Information:
RAs operate on floors of our residence halls and Tech Village Apartments when we have Tech students living on campus. We will have RAs during the Summer, Fall, and Spring terms.
Qualifications
To apply for a Resident Assistant position, you should:
- Be a full-time student with at least one semester of on-campus living experience
- Maintain a minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA and 2.25 semester GPA
- Have a positive attitude toward Residential Life and the University
- Work well with a diverse community
- Bring leadership experience, confidence, respect for others, strong communication skills, and good decision-making
- Be available for fall and spring training

Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of a Resident Assistant is to foster a positive and supportive floor or hall/apartment community. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Roles of a Resident Assistant
Resident Assistants serve as: Community Builders, Educators, Administrators, Advocates, Role Models, Friends, and Mentors.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in duty rotations, typically one weeknight (7 PM–7 AM) and one weekend per month (may vary by staff size)
- Respond to residents’ needs and concerns
- Cover Help Desk shifts
- Conduct community hours (two 90-minute shifts)
- Serve on committees or contribute to special projects
- Maintain a safe and study-friendly living environment
- Plan and implement floor and hall programming

Conference Assistant (CA) Information:
CAs operate in halls during the summer. We will have conference programs the entire summer and in all halls, excluding our summer housing hall for Tech students.

Conference Assistants (CA) work from mid-May through the end of July. The position is similar to the Resident Assistant role in that it is responsible for maintaining order, enforcing rules, being visible and interacting with conference participants on a daily basis in the Residential Halls. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Working under supervision of the Conference Hall Director and Assistant Director of Residential Life in charge of conferences
- Working approximately 10.5 weeks/30 hours per week
- Conducting room checks/inventories
- Greeting groups upon arrival
- Checking groups in and out of the halls
- Maintaining key inventories
- Completing appropriate paperwork
- Each CA is responsible for daily desk/office hours and duty nights in assigned hall
- Assist with linen inventories
- Provide support to camp participants
- Submit work orders and follow up

CONFERENCE ASSISTANT APPLICATION
General Student Worker Information:
General student workers typically work in our main office, in the Account Clerk's office as an assistant, or in our Tech Village apartments office.
The following benefits are included:
- Hourly minimum wage: Currently $7.25 per hour
- Potential early registration: At discretion of area depending on work hours needed
The primary responsibilities are at the discretion of the supervisor of the area but could include:
- Answering phone
- Filing paperwork
- Assisting with reports
- Data entry
- Any other duty as assigned
