Tech Village Apartments are not available to new first-time freshmen. For other new student types and those currently living off campus, placement in Tech Village is uncommon due to limited availability. Priority is given to returning students who currently live on campus. If the Tech Village application is not visible in your housing portal, it means there are no vacancies at this time.

New first-time freshmen are required to live on campus. However, exemptions may be granted for students who meet one or more of the following criteria:

• Are 21 years of age or older
• Will be living with a parent or legal guardian within 50 miles of Tennessee Tech
• Will be living with a sibling who is a full-time Tennessee Tech student, has achieved sophomore status or higher, and resides within 50 miles of campus
• Are married or a single parent
• Have other documented extenuating circumstances

If you meet one of the exemption criteria listed above, please complete the Request for Release form as soon as possible. Early submission helps ensure your request is reviewed in time and allows for a smoother housing process.

Important Housing Commitment Information
Once a student selected a room, cancellations are no longer permitted. Housing applications are binding for the full academic year, covering both the fall and spring semesters.

 

Yes.  New First-Time Freshmen are Defined as students newly admitted for Summer or Fall semesters who have never attended college after graduating high school.

No. University Housing assignments are for the full academic year, covering both the Fall and Spring semesters (August through May).

If you have a physical disability or medical condition that requires special consideration in your housing assignment—including requests for Emotional Support Animals (ESAs)—you must first register with the Accessible Education Center.

Housing accommodations can only be provided AFTER your registration and approval through the AEC.

A $200 prepayment is required at the time of the application.  UPON SELECTION OF A ROOM, YOU HAVE ENTERED INTO A BINDING CONTRACT AND ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR CANCELLATION.  This payment will be applied toward your housing account balance.   You cannot use scholarships or financial aid to make this payment.

The Bursar’s Office offers an approved Deferred Payment Plan for eligible students. This plan allows you to make installment payments throughout the semester instead of paying your full balance upfront.

To officially withdraw from the university, students must visit the Registrar’s Office or complete the University Withdrawal Form.

Please note: Housing is provided for enrolled students only. Once you officially withdraw, you are no longer considered a Tennessee Tech student and must check out of your room or apartment within 24 hours.

 

Once you complete your housing application, you’ll receive a confirmation email to your Tennessee Tech email, verifying that it’s been submitted. However, please note that completing the application does not guarantee a housing assignment. You do not have housing until you’ve selected a room.

Students with confirmed bookings will receive assignment emails to their Tech emails in May, which include roommate details, move-in instructions, and other important information.

All residents with a freshman classification are required to purchase a meal plan for their first two semesters.

Residence halls remain open during Fall Break, Thanksgiving Break, and Spring Break.

During the Christmas/New Year holiday period, University Housing and Residential Life is closed. However, students who need housing during this time must choose M.S. Cooper / Pinkerton, North Hall or South Hall when selecting a room as all other halls are closed.  There is an additional charge.

Students living in apartments may stay during any break period, as long as they hold a housing contract for each semester.

Insurance is HIGHLY recommended but not required.  Tennessee Tech University does not assume responsibility for students’ personal property and is not liable for loss or damage to items anywhere on campus. To safeguard your belongings, you (or your parents) are strongly encouraged to carry personal property insurance.

You have several options:

• Homeowners Policy: Check with your insurance provider to see if your belongings are covered or if a rider can be added.  This is often the vest and least expensive way.
• GradGuard: A purchase option is available directly through the housing application.
• NSSI: College Student Personal Property Insurance is available at nssi.com/portal/tennesseetech.

An email about requesting timeslots for Move-in will be going out in July to students Tennessee Tech Email.  We suggest Immunization forms be completed with Health Services by the end of JUNE so your student can gain access to request their timeslot.

We want you to make your space your own… this includes wall decorations. Command Hooks, Command Strips, and painter’s tape are here to save the day and will quickly become your best friends to help minimize damages to your walls.

Here are a few helpful tips to keep your space looking great:

• Try to avoid the generic brands —you’ll thank yourself later 😉
• Swap out your command strip adhesive and painter’s tape throughout the semesters to keep everything secure
• Take your time when removing Command Strips—patience is key to keeping your walls damage-free 

Remember measurements sent are approximate.  We suggest waiting to buy curtains, rugs, etc. when you get here in August!

While it is not required, we do suggest looking into it.  Like we said in our presentation (if you’ve attended SOAR this summer), students tend to leave their laptops on the floor and then jump on them when getting off their bed.  You don't want to be kicking yourself later if that happens.

As move-in day gets closer, it's important for students to keep a close eye on their Tennessee Tech student email. There is a lot of important information being sent there, and missing an email could mean missing a key deadline or update.

⏰ Time slot selection began today! If your student didn't check their email, they may not have known it was time to select their Move-In slot.

✅ Encourage your student to check their Tennessee Tech email every day. From Move-In details and housing updates to important campus information, their student email is the primary way they will receive communications.

‼️ Don’t forget if immunizations have NOT been turned into Health Services you can not choose a time slot.

📌Once submitted to Health Services, it takes 24 hours to hit our system.

Eagle Card: Your MUST have to Move‑In!

Your Eagle Card (digital or hard copy) is your student’s necessity for Move-In day! It unlocks their building, their floor, and basically their whole campus life — so it’s a must‑have before arriving.

If your student hasn’t set up their digital Eagle Card yet… ✨ Now is the time! ✨ They’ll want it ready to go so Move-In is smooth, quick, and stress‑free.
