There are many off-campus advocacy, crisis intervention and health care resources available in the Cookeville area and across Tennessee. A Helping Hand Advocacy Services

You can find multiple local advocacy services, from interpersonal violence to legal aid to resources, here in Cookeville and the Upper Cumberland that provide free support when you are in need. Genesis House 

Genesis House in Cookeville, TN promotes the general welfare of victims of domestic and sexual violence by providing shelter, goods, and services while helping them find safety in their lives and the self-sufficiency and healing needed to become independent. To this end, it is also our mission to enlighten the community in the dynamics of domestic and sexual abuse and its prevention by providing comprehensive educational programs. Avalon Center 

The Avalon Center in Crossville, TN has been providing support services to domestic violence and sexual assault victims since 1984, serving Bledsoe, Cumberland, Fentress, Morgan, Rhea, Roane, and Van Buren counties in Tennessee. Their mission is to end power-based violence against men, women, and children. Trained staff and volunteers are available around the clock. Visit Avalon Center's website to find more information. Upper Cumberland Family Justice Center

The Upper Cumberland Family Justice Center is a coalition of agency and governmental partners who offer services and assistance to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and elder abuse. Onsite partners are from the fields of social services, victim advocacy, civil legal aid, counseling, law enforcement, and prosecution. Services include, amongst many others, safety planning, prosecution assistance, counseling, access to emergency shelter, mental health assistance, and access to public benefits. Upper Cumberland Child Advocacy Center 

The Upper Cumberland Child Advocacy Center’s (UCCAC) mission is to serve children who are victims of drug endangerment, physical and sexual abuse through prevention, education and intervention. They serve the seven counties of the 13th Judicial District: Clay, Cumberland, DeKalb, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, and White. A member of the National Children’s Alliance, UCCAC has served more than 10,000 child abuse survivors since opening doors in 2004, and also provides services to these children’s non-offending caregivers. Upper Cumberland Family Justice Center

Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands

The mission of Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands (“LAS”) is to advance, defend, and enforce the legal rights of low-income and vulnerable people in order to secure for them the basic necessities of life. LAS is Tennessee’s largest nonprofit law firm that takes a comprehensive approach to providing high quality, free, civil legal services and community education for people to protect their livelihoods, their health, and their families. UCHRA - Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency 

The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency strives to improve the quality of life throughout the region. Through a diverse array of services, such as transportation, community intervention and youth programs, UCHRA connects and provides individuals, families, and businesses with resources they need. Upper Cumberland Pride

Upper Cumberland Pride (UCP) unites the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer and allied communities (LGBTQIA+) to support inclusion, dignity, and equality of all people. UCP builds safe, inclusive communities in Cookeville, Tennessee, and the surrounding Upper Cumberland region, accepting and valuing individuals of all sexual orientations or gender identities. The Health Department’s mission is to protect, promote, and improve the health and prosperity of the people in Putnam County. Remote Area Medical (RAM) is a major nonprofit provider of free pop-up clinics. By delivering free dental, vision and medical services to underserved and uninsured individuals, they aim to prevent pain and alleviate the suffering of those in need. Plateau Mental Health

Plateau Mental Health Center is the Cookeville location of the nonprofit organization Volunteer Behavioral Health Care System. VBHCS was established to bring together behavioral health professionals dedicated to caring for our communities. Covering over 11,000 square miles in Tennessee, VBHCS provides a continuum of services to meet the needs of over one million Tennesseans. Centerstone 

Centerstone is a nonprofit health system providing mental health and substance use disorder treatments. Services are available nationally through the operation of outpatient clinics, residential programs, the use of telehealth, and an inpatient hospital. Planned Parenthood 

Planned Parenthood is one of the nation’s leading providers of high-quality, affordable health care, and the nation’s largest provider of sex education. A Step Ahead Middle Tennessee

A Step Ahead is a nonprofit organization that partners with clinics, social workers, schools, community centers, and other organizations to promote awareness and provide access to free, long-acting reversible contraception (LARC). A Step Ahead provides free LARC services to residents of these 18 middle Tennessee counties: Bedford, Cannon, Cheatham, Davidson, DeKalb, Dickson, Hickman, Macon, Marshall, Maury, Montgomery, Robertson, Rutherford, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, Williamson, and Wilson. CHOICES: Memphis Center for Reproductive Health

Music City PrEP Clinic 

Founded in 2017, the Rod Bragg Music City PrEP Clinic in Nashville is a sexual health and wellness clinic. Their mission is to get to zero new HIV transmissions in Nashville and Middle Tennessee. They are working toward this by providing free PrEP and PEP prescriptions regardless of income or insurance status. Their services include discreet, no-cost lab testing for HIV and bacterial STDs, plus hepatitis A, B, and C testing. For more information visit the Music City PrEP website or call (615) 469-1065.

In 2018 Positively Living, Inc. launched Choice Health Network medical clinic to serve a greater volume of clients in new, innovative ways. In addition to medical care, their services now include food and transportation support, mental health counseling and therapy, HIV and HCV testing and treatment, pharmacy services, peer support and telehealth, and HIV prevention (PrEP and PEP).
