Reminder: Re-striping of west purple lot behind Tech Village next week

Please be reminded that facilities crews will begin work this coming Monday, June 24, on cleaning and re-striping the west purple-zoned parking lot behind Tech Village along North Franklin Avenue (see image above).

If you are parked in this lot, please make plans to move your vehicle by Monday morning. Students, faculty and staff using this lot may temporarily relocate their vehicle to the nearby red-zoned lots while this work is underway.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to improve and beautify our campus ahead of the fall semester. Please reach out to parking@tntech.edu with any questions.

Upcoming street paving and renovations to Derryberry Hall auditorium

street paving will start tomorrow (Friday, June 21) beginning with the small portion of Peachtree Avenue in front of Maddux and McCord Halls. This is the stretch of paved road between the new pedestrian walkway and West 7th Street.

After this work is complete, crews will move to West 10th Street, beginning with the parking are behind Henderson Hall and heading west. Crews do not currently plan to close this parking lot while paving is underway.

As West 10th Street is paved, the contractor plans to keep one lane open with flaggers directing traffic. After this they will proceed to Stadium drive and pave south towards West 7th street. As with West 10th street they plan to keep one lane open with flaggers.

Additionally, early next week, construction crews will begin installing a construction zone fence around portions of Derryberry Hall for the upcoming renovation of the building's auditorium.

As part of this work, the Capital Projects & Planning Department will need to temporarily take over a few parking spots in front of the building, which will be blocked off with barricades tomorrow after 4:30 p.m. Please see the map below for a view of the construction zone perimeter and the impacted parking spaces.

Changes for upcoming demolition for Foster Hall

Beginning this Wednesday, April 3, fencing will be set up around the perimeter of Foster Hall in advance of the building's demolition.

The fencing will take a row of parking spaces to the north of Foster Hall, as well as a small number of spaces directly to the south of Johnson Hall.

The sidewalk to the south of Johnson Hall will remain open for pedestrians and the path to the loading dock of the Roaden University Center will not be disrupted.

We expect this area of fencing to remain in place for the next two years while the university works to complete both this project and the renovation of nearby Johnson Hall.

The university has listened to the feedback we have received from students, faculty and staff about the importance of maintaining access to adequate parking in the interior of campus. That is why, as this handful of parking spaces go offline, additional parking areas will soon be reopening.

This includes the planned reopening of a gold zoned area of parking behind the Volpe Library near the intersection of University Drive and Stadium Drive, and the reopening of a gold zoned lot behind Bartoo Hall and Memorial Gym. Both parking lots are scheduled to reopen in the coming weeks. More information will be shared once an exact date is available.

Parking Closures During Spring Break

As a reminder, the employee parking lot behind Henderson Hall and T.J. Farr Building will be closed over the university's Spring Break, from Saturday,  March 9 to Sunday, March 17. This is to allow for the installation of brick pavers at the intersection of North Peachtree Avenue and West 10th Street.

The university will allow open parking - with the exception of designated visitor, accessible and reserved spaces - for those who continue to report to campus while classes are out of session.

All vehicles must be removed from the Henderson/T.J. Farr parking lot by midnight on March 8. The contractor plans to keep a pedestrian path through this area open during construction as much as possible.

Additionally, please note that the sidewalk on the north side of West 10th Street bordering the new Ashraf Islam Engineering Building will be closed and demolished during Spring Break to allow for construction of a new driveway. This area will reopen as soon as possible.

Generator pads will also be demolished in the parking lot of Southwest Hall over the break. Work is being carried out during this time to minimize disruptions for our campus community.

Thank you for your understanding. Have a safe and enjoyable Spring Break!

What we are doing now

Tech’s Office of Parking and Transportation, in conjunction with campus facilities staff, are actively working to expand and rezone select parking lots in order to minimize the impact on campus parking.

Campus Shuttle

The campus shuttle routes will be impacted with the pedestrian mall project. The new routes, including where the stops will be located are available via the PassioGo! App.  Information can be found in each Shuttle Shelter or on the Parking and Transportation webpage.

Visitor Parking

The process for obtaining a visitor permit is streamlined for campus visitors. While campus departments will still need to request permits from the Office of Parking and Transportation for their official visitors, people coming to campus will be able to use their smartphone and a QR code available at visitor spots to obtain their day-use visitor permit.

Parking Garage

Tech has begun the initial planning for multiple parking garages throughout campus.  This is a lengthy process and Updates will be shared as more information becomes available.

In the spring of 2024,  the Student Government Association (SGA) conducted a Transportation, Parking, and Infrastructure (TPI) Fee Student Survey. It has now closed. With 32% of respondents in favor and 68% not in favor of the proposed fee restructure, the proposal detailed in the survey will not be implemented for the next term. Thank you for voicing your opinion in this poll, and we hope to use your input and to inform future parking proposals.
