Grace Sloan is a senior history major with a political science minor, at Tennessee Tech. She is a Bethpage, Tennessee native and transferred to Tech from Volunteer State Community College.

Sloan was not new to Tech, though. In fact, multiple of her family members attended Tech, so she had previously visited the campus. Already falling for the campus scenery, she dove into learning about Tech’s history program to confirm her decision to transfer.

“I knew I wanted to be a history major and heard great things about their history program,” Sloan continued. “I visited the campus many times and met many of the professors that solidified my decision that Tech is the best place to further my education.”

At Tech, Sloan joined the history club to further immerse herself in her program. Along with that, Sloan was selected to represent Tech in the Legislative Internship program, where she interned for Senator Paul Bailey in the Spring 2024 semester.

“I was able to attend the legislative sessions as well as committee meetings every week,” Sloan recalled. “I assisted him and his office in numerous legislative duties including helping with resolutions, phone calls and emails with constituents, and preparing for committee each week.”

Sloan states that she really enjoys the relationships built between teachers and students at Tech. The dedication the professors possess to teaching the content and also helping students along the way has greatly impacted her experience.

“It is obvious that the teachers at Tech are truly interested in the success of their students,” she pointed out. “All of my teachers are understanding, well-informed and helpful in navigating the college world.”

Sloan has thoroughly enjoyed her experience at Tech, finding lasting friendships and resources to equip her in her career. Her involvement at Tech has left Sloan feeling grateful for Tech and hopeful for the future.

“The teachers, students and staff involved in day-to-day activities are all welcoming and kind,” she explained. “My education has truly flourished at Tech, and I cannot wait to see where this academic journey leads me next.”
